TRAINING OBJECTIVES

The Postgraduate Course enables participants to achieve the following objectives:

  • Know the theoretical and practical concepts to become surgeons specializing in temporomandibular joint surgery;
  • Know the theoretical concepts to examine and select patients with temporomandibular disorder who may be candidates for temporomandibular joint surgery;
  • Learn and use all available modern technologies such as computerized planning, simulation and navigation;
  • Develop multidisciplinary management knowledge, essential for patient care and successful treatment.

MODULE 1

TMJ pathology: etiopathogenesis, diagnosis and classification - 4 hours
Consultation of TMD patient, patient selection for conservative treatment and for TMJ minimally invasive surgery - 4 hours
Arthrocentesis: theory, live surgery and attendance in operating room - 4 hours
Cells concentrate injection: theory, live surgery and attendance in operating room - 4 hours
Elements of conservative treatment: splints, phisioterapy, drugs medication, pain management,botox injection - 4 hours
Post op management - 4 hours

MODULE 2

Consultation (follow-up) of patients operated during the previous meeting- 3 hours
Consultation and patient selection for arthroscopy - 3 hours
Post op management - 2 hours
Arthroscopy level I, level II and level III: theory, live surgery and attendance in operating room - 8 hours
Cadaver workshop (practice on head specimens): arthrocentesis and arthroscopy - 8 hours

MODULE 3

Consultation (follow-up) of patients operated during the previous meetings - 2 hours
Consultation and patient selection for open functional surgery - 2 hours
Post op management - 2 hours
Consultation and patient selection for TMJ replacement - 2 hours
Open functional surgery (discectomy and disc repositioning): theory, live surgery and attendance in operating room - 6 hours
Condylar hyperplasia: pathology, surgical options and planning of condylectomy - 1 hour
TMJ trauma/condylar fractures - 1 hour
3D computer digital planning of TMJ replacement (with and without simultaneous orthognatic surgery): each participant will plan his personal case (cadaver head specimen) which he will operate at cadaver workshop during the next meeting - 8 hours of which 3 frontal and 5 practice

MODULE 4

Consultation (follow-up) of patients operated during the previous meetings - 2 hours
TMJ replacement: theory, live surgery and attendance in operating room - 4 hours
Post op management - 2 hours
TMJ replacement: live surgery and attendance in operating room - 8 hours
Cadaver workshop (practice on head specimens): open surgery, trauma and TMJ replacement - 8 hours

To enroll in the Specialization Course "Fellowship in TMJ surgery: minimally invasive and open surgery, planning and replacement, trauma," it is necessary to possess a master's degree in Medicine and Surgery (LM-41) or one of the degrees from previous systems that are equivalent to it, or another equivalent qualification obtained abroad (such as a degree in Dentistry) that allows access to specialization in Maxillofacial Surgery and is recognized as suitable by the competent body for the sole purpose of enrollment in the course.
Additionally, a specialization diploma in Maxillofacial Surgery or enrollment in a Maxillofacial Surgery specialization school is required.

The course fee is set at: € 9,016.00 (which includes € 16.00 tax stamp paid virtually for the application).

First installment: €5,016.00 (including €16,00 stamp duty paid virtually for the course application) at the time of registration enrollment.
Second installment:€4,000.00 to be paid by January 30, 2025.

Registration for the Course will take place in chronological order of application submission until all available places are filled.

The first step consists in registering through the University website, which will provide you with a username and a password necessary for the online enrollment procedure. To access the registration service through the Esse3 system, click here.

Students that have already been/are currently enrolled at the University of Udine must use the username and password they already have by clicking on Login, where it is possible to activate the credential recovery procedure as well.

To register for the admission competition, log in to the Esse3 competition registration service using the username and password obtained during registration and on the menu item on the right side select the Student Administration Office item, then Competitions, and follow the instructions provided during the guided procedure.

At the end of the procedure, it will be possible to print the Admission Application, which DOES NOT need to be submitted to the Master's Office but should be kept as a reminder of the completed registration for the admission test.

The admission test ranking will be published according to the terms and methods provided by the Study Manifesto. Candidates who are admitted based on the ranking can proceed with enrolling in the Master within the deadlines and according to the methods indicated in the Study Manifesto.
