INTENSE - raINfall exTremEs and their impacts: from local to National ScalE - 2022ZC2522
Abstract
Rainfall-related hazards are one of the main causes of loss of life and economic damage. Best practices toward societal resilience crucially requires information on the occurrence probability of extreme rainfall at multiple space-time scales. INTENSE will advance our knowledge of extreme precipitation and its impacts on rainfall-related hazards. It will develop 1) new approaches for the downscaling of extreme rainfall from the satellite to the weather radar and point scales, 2) novel statistical approaches to the analysis of point and spatial extremes from satellite data, and 3) a novel integrated framework for quantifying and projecting risks related to rainfall-triggered landslides.
