Abstract

Because of high clinical relevance and poor therapeutic strategies, restoration of electrical conduction between nerve structures or integrate neural bioelectronic interfaces will be explored using innovative biomaterials (Knoevenagel type indole derivatives with highly delocalized electrons, dispersed in biocompatible adhesives) to suitably recover the input conduction to physiological levels. This 24 month project will be carried out by six teams (at SISSA, UniUd and UniGe) combining chemical synthesis/formulation; electrochemical/mechanical characterization; and electrophysiological/behavioral, histological/ultrastructural, and biocompatibility analyses.
