Abstract

Language contact is pervasive in natural languages and has attracted much attention in language studies for a long time. While some factors, both structural and sociolinguistic, are known as affecting the possibility of contact-induced language change (CILC), other aspects are still object of debate: Does change arise in whatever area of grammar? Are there areas of grammar which are more vulnerable with respect to CILC? The present project aims to address these questions focusing on CILC in a sample of minority languages spoken in the Italian language space: Sauris German, Timau German, the Slovenian varieties of Friuli, Friulian, Faeto Franco-Provençal, Sardinian, Alghero Catalan, Tabarchino.
