TheCURA - Theranostic Curcumin-Based Rare-Earth Agents - P20222TPZS
Abstract
The theranostic approach combines therapy and diagnosis, facilitating the shift from conventional to personalized medicine. Metal-based optical probes, particularly those involving curcumin, show promise in cancer cell imaging and damage. Lanthanide-based metal complexes are gaining attention for their optical sensor advantages. This project aims to develop NIR-to-NIR optical probes using curcuminoid ligands with selected Ln(III) acceptors. The units will develop the synthesis of modified curcumins, their complexes with several lanthanide ions (Eu3+, Tb3+, Yb3+…) and characterize their emission properties. The compounds will be modeled computationally to understand and optimize their electronic and optical. Most promising candidates for their optical properties will be transferred to in vitro testing for for fluorescence microscopy to differentiate cancer and normal cells. Additionally, such metal complexes will be explored as theranostic agents for hepatic cancer in PDT under NIR light.
