Abstract

This project aims at investigating the internal structure of the regional languages Ladin, Friulian and Bavarian dialects spoken in Friuli. According to sociolinguistic studies, these languages are endangered, because the language transmission is less consistent, if any, than it used to be. However, we still do not know how this affects the internal structure of the languages: the increasing number of semi-speakers leads us to expect a growing number of transfer phenomena from the dominant languages. We address this issue by analyzing three morphosyntactic areas of the language that are usually affected by crosslinguistic influence: the syntax of subjects, subordination and nominal inflection.
