The master program in Economics-Scienze economiche is divided into two curricula: “Economics” and “Sustainable Development”. The first one permits students to obtain a double degree from the Universities of Udine and Graz. The courses offered in the two curricula are taught in English. The program of the curriculum in Sustainable Development is entirely held in Udine, while students enrolled in the curriculum in Economics can either follow the entire program in Udine or spend a semester at the Department of Economics of the University of Graz, achieving there at least 30 ECTS, in order to obtain the double degree. Students who plan to attend courses in Graz can apply for grants reserved to them and assigned according to the rules established by a specific announcement of selection.

Learning objectives
The master program in Economics-Scienze Economiche follows the learning objectives set by the Italian Ministry of Education (degree class L-56) and it gives an education comparable to other international Masters in Economics. This allows students to access PhD courses both in Italy and abroad. The master program provides students with a theoretical background and an empirical training in economics, at an advanced level. It ensures that students gain an education with solid foundation in economic theory, applied economics, and acquire a good knowledge on policy issues. Consistently with these objectives, a supporting knowledge of mathematical and statistical methods of analysis is provided. Furthermore, a proper training in related fields of business and law is assured, in order to guarantee a wide variety of career and job opportunities. In a rapidly changing economic environment, it is important for both public institutions and private companies to hire people who are flexible and capable to analyse the markets and the economic system thanks to the tools learned during the program. The curriculum in Economics provides a general formation in the fields listed above. The curriculum in Sustainable Development includes a wide variety of advanced courses aiming at developing a deep understanding of each dimension of sustainability, with a focus on market-based tools and public policies, which can be adopted to facilitate the ecological transition path.

Professional opportunities
The master degree gives students a strong flexibility when accessing the job market. Graduate students in Economics- Scienze economiche are prepared for specialised and managerial activities both in the public and private sector: they can fill positions, for instance, in qualified research centres, authorities, financial institutions, banks, consulting firms, and other kinds of firms. The knowledge offered by the program also allows students to continue their education to PhD level.

Entry requirements
The requirements to be eligible for admission differ for students with Italian undergraduate degree and students
with foreign degree.
Italian students: a bachelor’s degree in the group L-33 Scienze Economiche o L-18 Scienze dell’economia e della gestione aziendale (ex DM 270/2004) or in the group 28 Scienze Economiche o 17 Scienze dell’economia e della gestione aziendale (ex DM 509/1999); alternatively, 30 ECTS in the following academic sectors SECS-P/01, SECS-P/02, SECS-P/03, SECS-P/05, SECS-P/06, SECSP/07, SECS-P/08, SECS-P/11, SECS-P/12 and 18 ECTS in the following academic sector SECS-S/01, SECS-S/03, SECS-S/06.
International students: a relevant undergraduate education (i.e., bachelor’s degree with a major in economics, or in mathematics, engineering).

The master program in Economics is aimed to provide students with the quantitative and theoretical background and empirical training necessary to develop the analytical skills required to become a theoretical as well as an applied economist. Our program ensures that students gain a solid foundation in quantitative methods, economic theory and acquire a good knowledge on policy issues.
By completing this Master students will be able to apply state-of-the-art economics and research techniques to real-world policy issues. Consistently with these objectives, the focus of the program is on:
• Advanced microeconomics and macroeconomics;
• quantitative methods, such as math, statistics and econometrics, necessary to analyze and interpret economic phenomena;
• study of elective fields such as poltical economy, development economics or public economics.
Courses will privilege an interdisciplinary approach. These competences are consistent with the requirements for the double degree with the University of Graz.

Nel rispetto delle finalità formative qualificanti della classe delle lauree magistrali in Scienze dell'Economia (LM-56), il Corso di laurea magistrale in Economics si pone l'obiettivo di fornire allo studente una preparazione di livello avanzato che rispecchi gli standard internazionali insiti nel percorso di entrambi i curricula ovvero quello standard e quello finalizzato al conseguimento del Double Degree con l'Università Karl-Franzens di Graz (Austria), con una accentuazione degli aspetti quantitativi, piuttosto che giuridici o aziendali, finalizzata allo svolgimento di attività di natura specialistica da svolgersi all'interno di istituzioni ed organismi internazionali, di amministrazioni pubbliche e di imprese. La frequenza dei corsi in inglese fornirà una solida preparazione economica, con particolare attenzione agli strumenti quantitativi e statistici e garantirà capacità di analisi e di interpretazione dei fenomeni economici sia in ambito nazionale che internazionale.
Coerentemente con gli obiettivi appena enunciati, le caratteristiche salienti del curriculum degli studi sono:
a) studio, a livello avanzato, degli aspetti fondamentali della microeconomia e della macroeconomia;
b) studio di corsi progrediti nei settori di ambito economico, fra i quali, ad esempio, Economia politica, Economia pubblica, Economia dello sviluppo, Industrial Organization, Economia ambientale, Storia del pensiero economico;
c) acquisizione delle tecniche matematiche e statistiche fondamentali per lo studio dei fenomeni economici: matematica, statistica ed econometria;
I corsi privilegeranno un approccio interdisciplinare.

Il laureato magistrale in Economics - Scienze Economiche avrà una preparazione di livello avanzato, con una accentuazione degli aspetti quantitativi, piuttosto che giuridici o aziendali, finalizzata allo svolgimento di attività di natura specialistica da svolgersi all’interno di imprese, amministrazioni pubbliche e istituzioni ed organismi internazionali.
