Objectives

The interactive lecture will be devoted to the best practices for preparing and presenting a research paper so that quality and impact are maximized, and the manuscript reaches vast audience. Importantly, the lecture will cover also those aspect hinging on research ethics, which are less and less respected as the “publish or perish” philosophy unfortunately keeps flourishing. Personal experience as ACS Catalysis editor, as co-author and reviewer will be used to provide tips on the most important steps during manuscript preparation and submission, namely the selection of the most suitable target journal, the preparation of the first draft and the cover letter, to the selection of suggested reviewers etc. Furthermore, the editorial process will be described in its key stages, discussing facts, expectations of authors and editors. In addition, Editorials and Viewpoints ^1-6 will be suggested and commented to properly plan experiments and to adequately guide the manuscript drafting so to diminishing chances of fast rejections. Finally, the use of modern similarity index software, artificial intelligence, ChatGPT etc will be critically discussed.
