Clinical and translational medical sciences
Training goals
The doctoral course in 'Clinical and Translational Medical Sciences' meets the need in the biomedical and health sciences disciplines for the training of researchers and health professionals with a high scientific profile, who pursue excellence in biomedical science and care practices in order to generate far-reaching benefits.
The main aim of the doctoral course is the training of professionals (physicians, biologists, biotechnologists, healthcare professionals, experts in the field of movement sciences) who are able to independently manage research projects and who, therefore, exhibit the following characteristics:
1. Ability to formulate relevant scientific questions and to design, conduct and complete appropriate studies.
2. Ability to conduct routine medical practice activities in the light of the scientific aspect. This will be relevant both for conducting studies in facilities that are not properly scientifically oriented (e.g. non-university hospitals) and for introducing innovative aspects into overall patient management.
The training objectives are generally expressed as disciplinary and transversal knowledge and skills. As far as knowledge is concerned, doctoral students are required to make an original contribution in terms of research in different medical and clinical areas considering their respective interactions through an interdisciplinary approach. Specific knowledge will be verified by measuring productivity in terms of peer-reviewed publications.
PhDs are also expected to acquire knowledge and skills that can be used for employment prospects in extra-academic settings, such as public and private healthcare facilities.

Employment opportunities
The educational activity of the PhD course in 'Clinical and Translational Medical Sciences' determines the construction of a wealth of interdisciplinary knowledge in the medical field that can be transferred to different types of structures.
The PhD course will be involved in a number of technology transfer activities managed by some of the College's lecturers, which allow for a network of relationships and collaborations with research bodies and companies, both national and international, favouring the employment of new PhDs.
Employment and professional outlets can be outlined as follows
- Scientific research in academia or in other public structures primarily dedicated to this mission (e.g. CNR). In this regard, the college lecturers will place great emphasis on training the ability to obtain funds for independent research.
- Scientific research in private structures such as pharmaceutical or medical device industries. - Health and care activities in public and private facilities. In fact, the faculty consists of lecturers from various clinical disciplines, both medical and surgical, laboratory disciplines, public health, health sciences and movement sciences.
