Audiovisual heritage and media education sciences - International master in audiovisual and cinema studies (IMACS)
The MA aim to train professionals at international level in the field of preservation of cinematographic and audiovisual heritage, in the creative and curatorial practices of the cultural industry and in the field of media education.
The Master's Degree blends humanistic traditions, film and media studies and technological innovation in a balanced approach combining strict training on cinematographic works, documents, materials and technologies, and the acquisition of creative skills and practical abilities. It also involves a great deal of different disciplines and innovative teaching methods, based on the principles of participation and cooperation (applied interdisciplinary projects, use of digital resources and tools, intensive seminars, practical exercises, lab teaching, specific training placements, involvement of experts and professionals for seminars and temporary professorships). The training program also includes the International Film Studies Conference and Magis International Film Studies Spring School (FilmForum).
The MA is organized in two specific curricula: 'Audiovisual Heritage' and 'Media Education' The course is held in two ways: National and International (International Master in Audiovisual and Cinema Studies - IMACS). Enrollment in the IMACS International mode is possible from both curricula and involves the attendance of two semesters at two different European and North American partner universities.
The MA programme included state of the art laboratories and multimedia libraries: screenwriting and production planning (Centro Ricerche Sceneggiature); digital filmmaking (Cinemantica); digital post-production (CREA), film and video preservation and restoration (La Camera Ottica) and Media Education and Digital Humanities (Digital Storytelling Lab), MEGO (audiovisual library).
The close connection between the course, heritage and educational institutions, and private companies enables the students to come into immediate contact with the range of academic, professional, educational, archival and museum spheres, and to obtain specific skills and know-how.
MA graduates find employment in public and private institutions, libraries, film, audiovisual and media archives, restoration laboratories, schools an training institutions, galleries and museums, theaters, foundations, television and new media broadcasts, digital publishing and Multimedia, specialized publishers and journals, television and web programs, cinematographic, audiovisual and multimedia industry, advisor and media management for business company, no-profit sector, press offices, communications and legal institutions companies related to the field. Many ex-students are currently employed in European archives, museums, audiovisual and multimedia libraries, business companies, universities (Gemona, Bologna, Rome, Milan, Wien, Wiesbaden, Bruxelles, Lisbon, London, etc.).
The Udine's MA programme offered 24 CFU/ECTS in English:
Media Archaeology – 6 CFU
Digital Filmmaking and Video Production – 9 CFU [from the BA "DAMS"]
MAGIS – International Film Studies Spring School – 9 CFU [The attendance of dedicated courses and workshop during the Spring School's intensive English advanced training program (held every year in March) allows the acquisition of 9 CFU]
Courses offered in Italian contain programs and bibliographies in foreign languages and specifically addressed to incoming students from foreign universities.
The didactic committee, responsible for the pre-evaluation of the admission requirements, maintains the right to request to prospective students a linguistic requirement lower than the minimum level generally required (B2, see "Additional rules concerning admission for prospective students with foreign qualifications academic year 2018-2019").
