Objectives

To give fundamental knowledge of turbomachineries and energy systems, that is hydraulic machines, thermal machines,  internal combustion engines and power plants.

Acquired skills

- To unerstand the turbomachineries and I.C.E. operation.
- To know geometrical and constructive characteristics of main T.M. and I.C.E.
- To chose a good T.M. and  I.C.E.  installation.
- To know  the main power plant solutions.
- To foresee the main enviromental pollutions from I.C.E and power plants.

Lectures and exercises (Topics and specific content)

Fundamentals: turbomachines and internal combustion engines general classification; impeller flow physics (8 hours).
Hydraulic machineries: turbines (Pelton, Francis and Kaplan), turbo-pumps (centrifugal and axial), volumetric pumps (12 hours).
Aeraulic machineries:  fans, dynamic compressors (centrifugal and axial), volumetric compressors (6 hours).
Steam plants: thermoelectric plants, steam generators, steam turbines (De Laval, Curtis, Rateau and Parsons), condensers (10 hours).
Internal combustion engines: spark ignition engines, diesel engines, supercharged engines (8 hours).
Gas turbines: aircraft, aereo-derivative and heavy duty gas turbines (4 hours).
Guided tours (8 hours). 
Tutorials / Seminars (4 hours).
