Entry Visa - Visa application NON EU students
Depending on your citizenship, your Country of residence, the length and the reason of your stay, you may need to obtain a visa before coming to Italy.
You could find if you need an Entry VISA or not, check the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs web site.
Entry VISA for under 90 Days
Fulfill the online form to request a short term VISA (90gg)
For periods of study over 90 days
You need to request an Entry VISA Type "D". To obtain it you need to:
- fill in the Visa application form (see the template)
- attach a valid passport or travel document (valid for at least three months after visa expiry date)
- attach a passport-sized photo
- have a proof of sufficient income
- book travel tickets
- obtain a Health insurance*
- have a declaration of the availability of suitable accommodation in Italy as well as the funds necessary for repatriation, possibly supported by a return airline ticket
- obtain an official invitation letter from University of Udine.
Please check that the Italian Embassy has put a stamp on your invitation letter or pre-enrolment form. Once stamped either of these documents can be used to apply for the permit of stay once you are in Italy!

If you do not have a document indicating a scholarship or similar, you must show a bank statement of your current account giving your personal details and the details of the Bank. If you share an account with your parents, they need to attach a declaration to their bank statement, stating that they consent to your use of their current account (affidavit). New! Schengen Area* travel
If you have a Long Stay Visa (Visa Type D, i.e. valid for more than 90 days) and a residence permit, you can travel freely for a period of max 3 months in any 6-month period to the other Schengen states*.
You are reminded to report your presence to the police authorities in the other Schengen territory within 3 working days of entry.
