Students who follow the programme will:

• develop critical awareness of areas of English Studies

• acquire specialist knowledge of British culture and awareness of the interaction of British and other English-speaking cultures in the contemporary context

• gain familiarity with key words and concepts in British culture

A critical awareness of the core topics discussed at lectures:

• The Beginnings of the English language to 1066

• The Industrial Revolution 1750-1830

• Popular culture and society in Britain 1960-2000

This is a taught programme.

Students will be assessed by an oral exam in English on the core topics discussed at lectures.
