Abstract

A growing interest in the way language is processed in daily communicative interactions, i.e., spontaneous language, has challenged the traditional views of how to assess language in healthy individuals and in persons with communicative and/or linguistic impairments. This research proposal aims to:

1) provide normative data for the Multilevel Assessment of Narrative Discourse applied to a narrative production task for adults;

2) assess the relation between narrative and cognitive skills in a cohort of individuals with healthy aging;

3) use normative data to a) determine whether narrative abilities can be enhanced in healthy aging with a training specifically devised to contrast the decline of narrative skills, and b) assess participants’ perceived quality of life pre and post training.
