Abstract

Italian libraries preserve 6500 Greek manuscripts. Their in depth investigation is relevant for the edition of texts and the history of reception. A fruitful approach involves the identification, by means of ‘signatures’ or graphic expertise, of the copyists, many of whom can gradually be given a biographical profile. Searching the codices preserved in Lombardy, Triveneto, Emilia-Romagna, the project aims to identify as many as possible of the ‘hands’ active therein and draw up publish at least the first volume of an inventory, with fully informative, up-to-date entries for each copyist.
