Biotechnology
Educational objectives
If you choose to enroll for the Biotechnology degree, you will train as a professional able to perform experimental protocols applying biomolecular, biochemical, microbiological, gene and proteomic, biocomputational and cell methodologies. The Course includes subjects from the field of biotechnologies: pharmaceuticals and diagnostics, human and animal health, food safety, environment and agriculture. The Course therefore includes many basic disciplines, which will enable you to work in the typical biotechnological areas: biotechnological industries in the food and agriculture sector, pharmaceuticals and the development of diagnostic methodologies, zootechnical, chemical and bioinformatical industries and for breeding laboratory animals and the production of transgenic animals; control laboratories for the environment and foodstuffs; public and private research institutes.
The Course also deals with the public perception of the products of biotechnological Companies.
The practical laboratories and experimental activities are a fundamental part of the Course, as is the obligatory internship.
After graduation, you can therefore find employment with Companies in various fields (bio-sanitary, industrial, veterinary, food industry, biotechnological, pharmaceutical), public and private research bodies, agencies, and multi-disciplinary professional offices. You can also work as medical/pharmaceutical sales representatives, Biologists, Biochemists, Food biotechnicians, Agronomists and Specialists in Life Sciences.
Professional opportunities
The Degree Course in Biotechnologies gives the students the basic methods and knowledge intended first of all to give them access to subsequent studies (Magister degrees, I level Masters), intended for specific professions, but which also allow them to enter the job market directly.
Graduates in Biotechnologies are able to apply defined protocols and solid knowledge in Life Sciences, using technologies and biological systems for services or the production of goods.
In particular they can:
- control the quality of biotechnological products in the food industry and perform environmental monitoring;
- apply and develop analytical procedures and techniques for carrying out biochemical, biological- molecular, microbiological, virological, pharmacological, hematological and immunological tests and analyses;
- use and develop bioinformatical tools to support laboratory activities.
They can therefore find employment with Companies in various fields (bio-sanitary, industrial, veterinary, food industry, biotechnological, pharmaceutical), public and private research bodies, agencies, multi-disciplinary professional offices involved in the fields of control, assessment and management of environmental impact, processing projects for the conservation and restoration of the environment and biodiversity and for biological safety.
After passing the State exam, graduates of the three-year degree in Biotechnologies can access the professions of junior biologist and agrarian Biotechnician.
The degree in Biotechnologies can enable the graduate to work as a medical/pharmaceutical sales representative.
The Course prepares graduates to be:
- Biologists;
- Biochemists;
- Food biotechnicians;
- Agronomists and similar;
- Specialists in Life Sciences.
