Equivalence procedure (Equipollenza)

Equivalence procedure (Equipollenza)

Academic qualifications issued by foreign universities have no legal value in Italy. If the study programme has been completed abroad, graduate students can apply to have it recognized as an Italian qualification. It is possible to check if a corresponding Italian qualification actually exists on the database of Italian university programmes. Each individual university has its own procedures for academic recognition by equivalence.

Italian academic authorities carry out the evaluation of H. Ed. qualifications obtained abroad, on a case by case basis. They decide whether the qualifications under examination are equivalent to the Italian degree selected by the individual applicant, and to what extent, if any, they are comparable.

Considering that each university is an autonomous institution, a different evaluation of the same foreign qualification may be given by different institutions. But only one recognition request may be accepted.
Applicants are personally responsible for the choice of the Italian university and degree.

For information regarding the documentation needed for the recognition application, please contact the Student admissions offices (Ripartizione Didattica).
